Introductions to new subjects by great people

This is a starter collection of syllabi compiled by experts, aimed at helping you get quickly oriented to their area of expertise. Across syllabi, two things are constant:

• Readme. An introduction to the topic from the author. Why study this? What are some of the big questions? How does one study this?
• In ~5 hours. How should someone spend their first ~5 hours to get a feel for the topic?
